Wyatt Russell, best known for playing the US Agent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, believes that ‘Thunderbolts’ is not a straightforward Marvel project.
Russell recently took part in a Q&A panel hosted by Josh Horowitz (MTV) via THR, where he discussed ‘Thunderbolts’ in great detail. He acknowledged the current ‘not so good’ state of the MCU. Also, he showed immense confidence in the film’s helmer, Jake Schrier, despite not going through the entire script. “I know Jake so well, and I know how smart Jake is and how much he cares about making something interesting and different and utilizing everyone’s talents to the best of their ability. And the story I think they’ve come up with is really interesting. I know parts of the story and how the story works, but I can’t talk about it.”
We know how much Marvel loves to brag about its projects being different from their previous releases. However, we are also familiar with the MCU’s current state, which does not look good at all and demands significant creative changes. Marvel’s claims of being ‘different’ have started to lose their importance and worth.
But we cannot deny that ‘Thunderbolts’ indeed looks like a very different MCU product. We can support this claim through the titular superhero faction, which consists of several anti-heroes and former villains. All these guys have been brought together by Contessa Valentina Allegra De La Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the MCU’s CIA director. The team has Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) as the leader. In addition, we have other characters like Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), David Harbour (Red Guardian), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), and more. Members of this faction are more self-interested and do not possess a strong allegiance to common team goals. They get work from the CIA in cases of “special work”.
In addition, the landscape of ‘Thunderbolts’ has significantly changed after the addition of Steven Yeun as Sentry, who will make his live-action debut in the film. Sentry is one of the most powerful and intriguing characters in Marvel comics. He is rumoured to play the film’s antagonist, a scenario that will put the superhero faction against a threat they have never faced before. Stay tuned for more updates.
