“These allegations of egregious misconduct are false,” said the creator and former showrunner of Marvel’s X-Men ‘97 Disney+ series Beau DeMayo. He accused the studio of wrongful firing in a 30-minute OnlyFans video he posted on Wednesday.
Marvel shockingly fired DeMayo on the eve of the X-Men ‘97 series premiere in March this year without commenting on the situation. Sometime later, the studio disclosed that DeMayo was fired due to the “egregious nature” of findings in an internal investigation. Moreover, many rumours regarding DeMayo’s involvement in a sexual misconduct case have fueled this overall scenario. The former showrunner has denied the rumours circulating online about his alleged misconduct. Last month, the seasoned scribe revealed that he got fired because of some LGBTQ+ fan art he reposed, which did not sit well with Marvel.
“The rumors being spread around me online are lies, and they are offensive, but more concerning is that they’re a smear campaign designed to discredit my credibility in order to cover up the egregious prejudicial misconduct stretching from select crew members on X-Men ’97, all the way all the way to the top at Marvel Studios,” DeMayo said in his 30-minute OnlyFans video.
DeMayo has turned everything upside down by calling out Marvel over its “near criminal working conditions” and “toxic environment”. He even went on to say that the real reason Marvel fired him was because he was being open about being black and gay. The former showrunner also claims that he was fired from the studio after expressing concerns about a hostile work environment for LGBTQ+ employees.
Responding to his sudden dismissal from Marvel and the subsequent events, DeMayo has called out the Mouse House via this statement:
“I have the receipts and the eyewitnesses so long as you stop coercing them to lie, you can keep attacking me with lies and misinformation, but we can become the ugliest, most annoying version of that of that … or you can start acting like a studio that is worthy of a show like X Men ‘97.”
Marvel and Disney have not issued any statements about the situation. Moreover, DeMayo has alleged that Disney blacklisted him from X-Men ‘97’s Comic-Con panels and did not permit him to attend the Emmys next week, where the Disney+ series has been nominated for best animated series.
