We are less than four days away from getting the Season 1 finale of the X-Men ‘97 Disney+ series. On May 15, the first season of the universally acclaimed revival of the original ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ will end. And yes, we are already mourning its loss. After the jaw-dropping twist at the end of Episode 9, Episode 10 promises to be even more shocking. Our beloved mutant heroes may lose their battle against Bastion in the upcoming Season 1 finale.
Titled “Tolerance is Extinction – Part III,” Episode 10, premiering on Disney+ on May 15, may see the X-Men fall to Bastion, according to a popular fan theory. Cable’s vision of the future in Episode 8 disclosed Bastion’s true intentions, which included a human utopia where all mutants were enslaved. In this vision, we witnessed plenty of mutants working under the supervision of cybernetically enhanced Prime Sentinels. We also saw Magneto’s daughter, Polaris, in that vision. She, like her father, possesses magnetic abilities and can manipulate Earth’s magnetic fields, mirroring Magneto’s actions in Episode 8.
X-Men’s actions in the last two episodes may have been a part of Bastion’s long-term plan. Cable’s vision proves that Bastion already has Polaris to take care of Earth’s magnetic field in the future. Plus, Magneto’s worldwide attack could motivate governments across the globe to financially support Bastion’s Prime Sentinel program to retaliate against mutants. Episode 10 of X-Men ‘97 could bring back Polaris, who has also appeared in the original animated series.
In addition, it will be interesting to see what will happen between Professor X and Magneto, who brutally ripped every inch of adamantium out of Wolverine’s body in the last episode. This scenario may force Charles Xavier to explore the deep and dark corners of his mind and unleash hell on his former best friend.
