Searchlight has revealed the release window of Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming directional project, Poor Things, with Emma Stone in the lead. The sci-fi romance flick will hit theaters worldwide on September 8.
Stone reteams with Lanthimos after previously collaborating with him on the Academy Award-nominated period black comedy, The Favourite (2018). Olivia Colman bagged the Oscar for Best Actress for her outstanding performance in the film.
Apart from leading the cast of ‘Poor Things‘, Stone also serves as the film’s producer along with the director.
The film revolves around Stone’s character, Bella Baxter, who is miraculously revived from the dead by an eccentric scientist, Dr. Godwin Baxter, played by Willem Dafoe. Under Godwin’s protection, Bella’s thirst for knowledge and learning augments. To experience the world, she runs off with a smooth-talking and carouse lawyer, Duncan Wedderburn, played by Mark Ruffalo. With him, she gets an opportunity to travel across multiple continents. Despite the prejudices of her time, Bella’s commitment to equal rights and freedom increases.
The film will not premiere at this year’s TIFF as the festival is scheduled to take place from September 7-17. However, it may get released in Venice or Telluride.
Helmed by Yorgos Lanthimos, Poor Things stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael. It will be released on September 8. Stay tuned for more updates.
