Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver is Zack Snyder’s chance to shut the mouths of those haters who left no stone unturned in disparaging Part One: A Child of Fire. The first part came out on Netflix during the last year’s Christmas season. What was supposed to emerge as a sensational sci-fi opera ended up being a huge misfire from Snyder. Despite shattering numerous streaming records, the film was butchered by critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a ‘rotten’ score of 22% based on 172 certified reviews.
Snyder has to go all out with ‘The Scargiver’ to do his own franchise justice, after what happened to Part One. He needs to further flesh out the key characters and the franchise’s overall sci-fi world. He already has sensational talents like Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, and more. Boutella’s impressive, emotional, and physically demanding performance as Kora was one of the few good things about Part One. We should expect the same from her in Part Two as well.
The Rebel Moon franchise earned more strength and stability after Netflix bestowed Zack Snyder with complete control of Rebel Moon’s director cut. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, the director teased that his cut was expected to arrive on the streaming platform later this year, which would be more focused and intense. His cut will also feature R-rated sequences that were cut to adhere to the PG-13 rating. In addition, Snyder’s Rebel Moon version will explore different scenes and characters in extra depth compared to the PG-13 version.
“I’ll be honest, it’s probably the most rewarding part was the deal I made with Netflix. They’re incredible partners, and they are to be able to complete the director’s cuts to exactly my specs. Running time is not an issue. Rating not an issue. All the things that I’ve been able to do with the director’s cuts, really that’s a dream come true for any filmmaker to have complete free hand is a cool thing,” Snyder said in his interview.
Based on Snyder’s recent comments, the director’s cut of Rebel Moon may have a longer screentime than the PG-13 version, which is not something unique, considering Snyder’s work on director cuts of Watchmen (2019), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2021).
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver is slated to release on Netflix on April 19. Stay tuned for more updates.
