But one of the most polarising movie directors in the modern era of filmmaking, Zack Snyder, has revealed that his next project will be a “small movie” with minimal usage of VFX. This scenario seems equivalent to Martin Scorsese helming a Marvel movie. Perhaps a movie about an Italian superhero? Anyway…
In his recent interview with ReelBlend Podcast, Snyder was asked about his next project after the Rebel Moon movies. The filmmaker disclosed that his next film would be significantly different from his previous movies as it would be made on a smaller scale with no visual effects.
“We’re trying to do a small movie right now. I’m not going to say what it is. I was like, can I just do a movie without any visual effects in it for like five minutes? And then we can get back to the insanity. So that’s what we’re trying to do right now. I’m supposed to be writing this little movie.”
Snyder is a director with flaws. But we cannot ignore his ability to bestow visually stunning storytelling experiences to viewers. The majority of his projects heavily rely on visual effects-heavy storytelling, such as 300, Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. His latest Rebel Moon movies are also the epitomes of this scenario. Which is why seeing Snyder opting for a smaller scale and no usage of VFX for his next project is pretty shocking. It seems like his next film will be likely more grounded and character-driven than his previous high-octane, visually spectacular projects.
