Zee5’s dull spree continues as August became even weaker than July with barely anything coming to the streamer in the month. While last month seemed to be the lowest point for Zee5, August somehow got worse.
With nothing happening for the first ten days, the first release on Zee5 happened on 11th day of the month with a Bengali mystery crime thriller series ‘Abar Proloy’ and the much anticipated documentary ‘The Kashmir Files Unreported’.
‘Abar Proloy’ by Raj Chakraborty is a spin-off of the 2013 film ‘Proloy’ and is one high octane thrilling ride that provides an exhilarating experience that keeps the viewers engaged.
On the other hand, ‘The Kashmir Files Unreported’ by Vivek Agnihotri claims to investigate the history of the Kashmir conflict based on data gathered before the making of ‘The Kashmir Files’. This was the only title that Zee5 tried to bank on in August.
Then again Zee5 took a two weeks gap to bring the only other two Indian films it had slated for the month. First one’s a Bengali romance drama ‘Shohorer Ushnotomo Din E’ and the second one’s a Tamil drama ‘Black ‘n’ White’.
‘Shohorer Ushnotomo Din E’ is a coming-of-age love story of two Calcutta-bred individuals Ritoban and Anindita. Life poses a second chance for their unrequited love, when Ritoban, a disillusioned PhD student in London, returns to Calcutta after three years and bumps into Anindita, his college sweetheart who is now a successful RJ.
Meanwhile, ‘Black ‘n’ White’ follows siblings Rishi and Ritu who lose their parents to COVID and are on the verge of losing their home to debtors. After several failed attempts to arrange the money, Rishi plans on going rogue.
Both these films could not manage to bring much viewership numbers for Zee5 in August and mostly went unnoticed.
Not having learnt from the previous few months, Zee5 just managed to deliver the lowest of lows in August on the Indian content front. With just four titles premiering on the platform that too without any big launch proves how badly Zee5 is struggling.
