After months of speculation, Manju Warrier’s techno-horror thriller ‘Chathur Mukham’ manages to get an OTT release date. The film is expected to release on the digital platform, ZEE5 next week, with the film expected to release on the TV channel, ZEE5 Keralam, for its television premiere. Although the streaming rights were acquired by the Indian OTT platform some time back, we didn’t know anything about the film’s television premiere or streaming release date. There has been no official announcement yet, but the film has been given a July slot in the ZEE5 Premium “Coming Soon” section, so we expect an official statement to be released soon – and hopefully, it will be in the form of an updated trailer with a ZEE5 watermark.
‘Chathur Mukham’ had initially released in theatres, back in 8th April 2021, but it was quickly removed from theatres after the huge rise in Covid-19 cases (due to the “second wave” of the coronavirus) in Kerala (which was also when second shows were scrapped from theatres). The film was in “limbo” ever since. ZEE5 had managed to acquire the streaming rights for some time, but there had been some unknown (not reported) issue that seemed to delay procedures; however, that issue seems to have been resolved. In a few days the movie will finally release on the OTT platform and we can finally see what the hype has been about.
The brief period when ‘Chathur Mukham’ available in theatres, had been enough for the movie to receive good reviews, with many critics praising Manju Warrier’s acting, the film’s pacing and the film script. The movie manages to keep the audiences on their toes without jump scares by being eerily supernatural. The film has managed to attract the eyes of International viewers as well and it has become one in three Indian films to be selected for the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, in Korea. Multiple other international film festivals are planning to screen this movie as well and we expect it to get rave reviews there as well.
‘Chathur Mukham’ will get its OTT premiere on ZEE5 on 9th July 2021. Check out the film trailer, below:
