July was an utterly disappointing month for Zee5 as there could be. Barring a couple of exceptions, the streaming service lacked on both quality and quantity front in July.
July started with the premiere of the direct-to-OTT film ‘Tarla’ starring Huma Qureshi in the lead and happened to be one of the two titles on Zee5 that garnered a little viewer attention this month.
Alongside ‘Tarla’, Tamil film ‘Kathar Basha Endra Muthuramalingam’ and Bengali film ‘Archir Gallery’ too premiered on Zee5 on the same date. The former was nothing more than an exhausting hotchpotch while the latter desire being a decent romantic drama couldn’t attract much viewership.
Next up for Zee5 was Telugu-English bilingual comedy web series ‘Maya Bazaar – For Sale’. Despite much promotions for the show it turned out to be a disappointment. Then there was Tamil film ‘Estate’ that went totally unnoticed.
It was Punjabi film ‘Maurh – Lehndi Rutt De Nayak’ that was the second title to have received some notice after ‘Tarla’. The film had a positive response on its theatrical release and that translated to its digital debut as well.
Overall, other than ‘Tarla’ and ‘Maurh’, Zee5 offered nothing substantial to its subscribers, letting them down with massive disappointment. For the past few months Zee5 has continued to do so and its high time now it turns up its game to stay relevant.
