June was rather dry for Zee5 as there was nothing much going on on the platform this month. Moreover, the three projects that made it to the platform in June fell in two categories: Good and Bad; there’s was no in between. But it still was a great month in terms of quality.
First up was romantic comedy drama ‘Luv Ki Arrange Marriage’ by Ishrat R. Khan and despite having a quirky premise it was drowned by its outdated treatment. Unnecessary subplots and too many redundant characters alongwith Annu Kapoor’s disappointing performance make it almost unwatchable. And hence it was a skip.
Next up we have the good one, a Telugu crime thriller series ‘Paruvu’ and this one’s really exceptional as it offers a spine chilling take on a social evil. The performances in this Telugu show are just phenomenal with every actor doing justice to their characters be it Nivetha Pethuraj, Naresh Agastya, Naga Babu or Praneeta Patnaik.
The makers smartly camouflage the perils of a social evil in the garb of an arresting thriller. The plot is superb and layered and the narrative is fast paced that keeps you on the edge throughout. Though it might get too heavy at times with overdose of twists.
And lastly there’s Nawazuddin Siddiqui led ’Rautu Ka Raaz’, an investigative crime thriller with a witty touch. The film is a hill station mystery that hits the right notes. It’s enjoyably laidback, casual and still focused in its narration. And despite being a mainstream genre the film’s writing is refreshing with commendable performances, impressive technical finesse and attention to details. Though some might find the pace of the film to be a bit leisurely.
All in all, though there was less content to offer Zee5 performed well in June with two out of three scoring high. All three being Zee5’s original content makes it even better as it shows the platform’s consistent approach to deliver the best.
