June was a month with many launches for Zee5 but not even one was outstanding enough to make it up for the platform. Despite a few big titles, Zee5 could not attract much viewership.
The month of June started for Zee5 with digital premiere of popular Marathi film ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’, Telugu film ‘Vishwak’ and Bengali film ‘Hatyapuri’. None of these films created much impact for the streamer. On the series front there was ‘Taj: Reign of Revenge’ season 2 part 2 and it too was a disappointment.
In the second week Zee5 launched three new titles that were originally theatre plays. These include ‘Kusum Manohar Lele’, ‘Gunehgaar’ and ‘Koi Baat Chale’ and premiered on the platform under ‘Zee Theatre’ category. There was also a show called ‘Sarvam Shakthi Mayan’ that premiered alongside the above three but once again all of them went unnoticed.
Up next was Tamil action thriller film ‘Tamilarasan’ and hard-hitting social drama ‘Siya’. While the former went under the radar, the latter too could not do much in its digital premiere on Zee5.
It was in the last week of June that Zee5 brought up its biggest title, Salman Khan starrer ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’. Even though it was the world digital premiere of a big star movie, there wasn’t much hope from it given that the film had failed miserably at the box office.
The month ended with titles like ‘Lakadbaggha’ and ‘Vimanam’ coming to Zee5. Both these movies have substance credits to their names but whether they do well on OTT is a matter of time.
Overall, June, despite being a month of much content did not offer satisfactory quality for Zee5. Instead if Zee5 starts focusing on more good quality content acquisition it wouldn’t have to source so many titles and would still be doing great.
