Zee5 had an interesting month of May where a mix of original and licensed stuff came on the platform and what’s noticeable here is the linguistic diversity of the content.
It was Nawazuddin Siddique led biographical crime drama ‘Costao’ that marked the beginning of May on Zee5 and this one performed decently. It wasn’t something extraordinary or breakthrough worthy but turned out to be a decent investment from the platform that gave it a good enough start.
Next up was Bengali blockbuster vigilante heist action thriller ‘Bohurupi’ that came on Zee5 and it was the best thing to happen in May on the streamer when it comes to quality content. Though it did suffer from limited audience.
Nithiin’s Telugu heist action comedy ‘Robinhood’ was the next licensed film to make way to Zee5 and this box office bomb could not revive itself on OTT as well.
Next up was Kannada crime drama mystery ‘Agnyathavasi’, another licensed film that premiered on Zee5 post theatrical run. The film is getting some pretty decent response on its digital debut after impressing in cinemas but then again nothing great.
Towards the end of the month, Zee5 launched two original titles, one, Hindi crime thriller film ‘Interrogation’ and two, Marathi horror series ‘Andhar Maya’. While the former isn’t that good, the latter is gaining good reception but it would be a little early to make assumptions about these two as of now.
Overall, it was kind of a mix bag of original and licensed titles on Zee5 in May where some performed well, the others not so much. In totality it was pretty average a month for Zee5 where nothing stood out in an exemplary manner except for some nice vernacular additions.
