Diljit Dosanjh is one of the most loved stars in the country right now. After his brilliant role in Amar Singh Chamkila and a few live performances, people can’t stop praising him. That film became a huge hit on Netflix, both with critics and with the audience. A big reason for its success was Netflix’s nonstop promotion. You saw it everywhere: social media, interviews, posters, film screenings and more. It made sure everyone knew about it, even after it released, the hype was still on.
But now, Diljit’s new film Detective Sherdil is coming to ZEE5 on the 20th of June, and hardly anyone is talking about it. It’s strange because Diljit is a big name, and his face alone can bring people to the screens. He has already proven himself with movies like Good Newwz, Crew, and of course Amar Singh Chamkila. Viewers have started to love him. But still, this time, it feels like there’s no real effort to create buzz.
ZEE5 seems more focused on showing off its new logo rather than promoting a film that could actually bring in views. A detective-comedy film starring Diljit could be a lot of fun and attract a wide audience. But how will people watch something if they don’t even know it’s coming?
This lack of promotion is not just disappointing; it’s a missed opportunity. Good content deserves good marketing. Just putting it on the platform isn’t enough. If Diljit’s name can’t get people excited because they didn’t even hear about the film, that’s a problem.
Hopefully, when the film drops, word of mouth will help it get noticed. But it would’ve been better if ZEE5 had given it the push it truly deserved.
