November was not that great a month for Zee5 despite quite a few original titles and an impactful licensed film. More so, when it comes to numbers, Zee5 managed to pull in the views with two titles only- Hindi web series ‘Mukhbir: The Story of a Spy’ and licensed film ‘Chup: Revenge of the Artist’.
Not that Zee5 didn’t have enough titles releasing in November, it’s just that nothing seems to have clicked with the viewers. Films like Prakash Raj’s ‘Tadka’ made it to Zee5 after being shelved for quite a time but failed to impress. Some other titles like Punjabi film ‘Bai Ji Kuttange’, Malayalam films ‘Mei Hoom Moosa’ and ‘Kochaal’ and Kannad film ‘Guru Shishrayu’ mostly went unnoticed.
Coming to web series there were again quite a few names that premiered on Zee5 in November. First up we have Telugu rom-com ‘Aha Na Pellanta’, a silly entertainer with a routine premise. Despite some fun moments here and there and a good casting, the series was routine, predictable, lacked emotional appeal and had a poor love track.
Next up is Tamil original dance drama series ‘Five, Six, Seven, Eight’ that failed to create much wave. Then there were two Hindi shows – ‘Mukhbir: The Story of a Spy’ and ‘Country Mafia’. While the latter did not get much attention it was the former that garnered numbers for Zee5. ‘Mukhbir: The Story of a Spy’ had over 100 million watch minutes in the opening weekend itself.
Coming to the biggest licensed movie for Zee5 for the month of November ’Chup: Revenge of the Artist’. As expected R. Balki’s psychological crime thriller film did wonders on OTT as well after getting positive reviews at the box office. The riveting, edge of the seat storyline and gripping performances of the film are such that it had over 30 million viewing minutes in 24 hours of release on Zee5.
