Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy actress Zoe Saldana believes that women need to be in more leadership positions in Hollywood. And those who have already shattered the ceiling must not remain complacent about this scenario. “We need more female CEOs. We need more women sitting on boards. Because those are the gatekeepers,” Saldana said.
Saldana covered a comprehensive range of subjects while speaking at the Cannes Film Festival as part of Kering’s Women in Motion initiative. In her speech, the actress talked about her experience while working on James Cameron’s Avatar, gender equality in Hollywood, and ‘Emilia Perez’ – the latest musical crime comedy from director Jacques Audiard. The film received an 11-minute long standing ovation (the longest so far) after its premiere at the festival.
“Once those women are there, don’t feel happy that you’re the only woman at the table .. make room,” Saldana added. The Star Trek actress received unanimous praise for her performance as Rita Moro Castro in ‘Emilia Perez’. Castro is an underappreciated and underpaid criminal attorney in Mexico who gets once in a lifetime opportunity to represent a cartel lord.
‘Emilia Perez’ has been helmed, written, and co-produced by Jacques Audiard. Apart from Zoe Saldana, the film stars Karla Sofia Gascon, Selena Gomez, Edgar Ramirez, Mark Ivanir, Adriana Paz, and more. It holds a ‘fresh’ rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes based on nine certified reviews. It will arrive in theatres worldwide on August 28, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
