Zoya Akhtar’s Next: Docu-Drama On Bollywood’s Iconic Writer Duo Salim-Javed!

Zoya Akhtar has proved herself to be one of Bollywood’s phenomenal filmmakers of recent times, with her amazing creations. With movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Luck By Chance, Dil Dhadakne Do, Bombay Talkies and the most recent Gully Boy among others. Now, with such amazing films in hand, Zoya’s next has been the talk of the town, while she has been quiet with her upcoming projects, details about a certain possible project from hers has been making the buzz.

It is being reported that Zoya Akhtar is planning on creating a documentary drama based on Bollywood’s most iconic writer duo, Salim-Javed. The duo has been credited as one of the greatest in Bollywood’s history and their creations are clearly proof of it. Zoya apparently has been working on this documentary for over the last two years now.

Buzz is that she is working closely with both her father Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan and that too independently, so that she can get the point of views of both the iconic writers and bring their stories together in this documentary. Now, it is unclear as to if Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan will themselves make appearances or will this be a drama that will be re-enacted by some renowned actors in town today.

The writer duo has given Bollywood and Indian film scene some of the best movies. They are considered as one of the most successful writers and the first to achieve the star status. The duo gave rise to many concepts including the “angry young man”, the dacoit genre in the 70s-80s, the masala films and so many more. Some of their greatest creations include movies Sholay, Don, Zanjeer, Seeta Aur Geeta, Deewar, Trishul along with many other critically acclaimed and commercially hit movies.

Zoya Akhtar’s motive of creating this documentary drama is to tell today’s generation what these stalwarts are and how they have worked to create a Bollywood that we know today. Their works in every possible way is inspirational to the young filmmakers of today. It also looks like Zoya Akhtar has grand plans for it too, as it is being said that there’s a possibility that the documentary might stream on one of the digital platforms when it releases.

Besides this, Zoya is said to be preparing for her film which will be gangster themed and there have been speculations as to who will star in it. Also, Javed Akhtar after 15 years is returning as a screenwriter for a movie produced by Excel Entertainment.
