YRF’s biggest action spectacle of 2025, War 2, is now available to stream on Netflix. This mega Hrithik Roshan and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. starrer, despite a massive opening day of ₹52 crores, tanked at the box office. It ended up collecting nearly INR 303–351 crores against its mega budget of INR 400 crores.
Viewers praised the film’s action sequences, cinematography, and spectacle. However, it was heavily criticized for its clichéd and weak screenplay, confused plot, poor pacing (especially in the second half), and excessive, unrealistic action. Many critics noted that the film’s endless conversations and combats served little narrative purpose, resulting in a glossy but ultimately disappointing experience for many reviewers.
However, War 2 has received a much better response on its OTT release. While viewers have still pointed out the movie’s mistakes, they have ultimately found it a decent entertainer. Surprisingly, a noticeable section of viewers has found War 2 better than Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, which clashed with War 2 this Independence Day weekend.
The world of OTT has given countless big-budget spectacles a second chance to win the audience’s hearts despite performing poorly at the box office. War 2 may be poised to do exactly this.
Now, free from the pressure of opening weekend numbers and critical fanfare, Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr.’s star power is finally being judged on its own terms, as enjoyable entertainment.
