At the 2025 Emmys, Prime Video walked away without any of the “major” honours, a surprising outcome given its stature as one of the biggest players in the streaming wars. While platforms like Netflix, Apple TV+, and HBO Max celebrated a lot of wins in drama, comedy, and limited series categories, Prime Video was noticeably absent from the top of the list. The streamer’s crown jewel The Boys did collect trophies for stunt coordination, guest appearance, original music and lyrics, and stunt performance, but these, while commendable, do not carry the same weight as wins for best drama, comedy, or limited series.
This result shows a strange situation for Prime Video. Despite investing heavily in prestige projects and commanding global attention with shows that boast high budgets and expansive marketing campaigns, it has struggled to convert that dominance into Emmy recognition at the highest level. The fact that The Boys, one of its most acclaimed and popular series was unable to break into the major wins is very telling about the overall situation of Prime Video.
In contrast, rivals did a fantastic job. Netflix’s Adolescence swept limited series categories, Apple TV+ scored with The Studio and Severance, and HBO Max maintained its grip on drama with The Pitt. Prime Video, meanwhile, seems stuck in a liminal space: celebrated for technical and performance elements yet unable to claim the biggest prizes. For a service of its scale, this Emmy season feels less like a victory lap and more like a wake-up call. If prestige matters in the long game of streaming, Prime has some catching up to do.
