Prasar Bharati recently released its OTT platform waves to compete with other OTT platforms in this digital age.
At the launch of the platform at IFFI 2024, Waves announced that it will feature 5 graduation films from Annapurna College of Film and Media.
The films streaming on the platform are Benchi, Dubki, Mauli, Kittu Katha and Roll No 52—all graduation films made by students from various years at the college.
This is the first time any streaming platform has featured any student films on their platform. It signals a very important shift in how we look at emerging talent in this industry. By highlighting new filmmakers, the platform not only encourages creativity among the new generation of storytellers but also highlights its commitment to telling a wide range of stories.
The platform aims to tell clean stories that resonate with our culture and heritage. It doesn’t focus on star power or commercial films, but on the art of storytelling itself, making sure it acts as a platform for voices from all facets of life. If Waves manages to keep telling authentic and culturally rich stories, it can set itself apart from the other OTT platforms by celebrating India’s rich heritage and emerging creative talent.
