There’s no denying that ad-tiers are one of the most important sources of revenue for any streaming service, especially for a streaming giant like JioHotstar. But what happens when a platform starts bombarding its users with way too many unskippable ads? Yup, frustration and anger levels skyrocket.
JioHotstar not only boasts a vast variety of regional content but also a massive collection of Hollywood blockbusters. For people who don’t like visiting theatres and prefer watching new Hollywood releases via OTT from the comfort of their homes, a seamless and enjoyable viewing experience is a must.
While a limited number of ads is tolerable, when the frequency becomes excessive, it drives viewers up the wall. And that’s exactly what’s happening with JioHotstar users.
The sheer frequency of ad-slots on JioHotstar is baffling. Not only are users forced to sit through these lengthy ad breaks, but it also ruins their overall watching experience. The latest casualty? Disney’s biggest box-office hit of 2025, the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch.
Today morning I was watching the movie Lilo & stitch on @JioHotstar and man the number of ads I am seeing every 10-15 minutes just baffles me to understand why the hell am I charged for 3 months? It is as good as any free platform. #disgusting

The remake is now available to stream on JioHotstar. But unless you’re on the premium plan, it’s hardly worth the watch.
With a runtime of roughly 108 minutes, Lilo & Stitch on JioHotstar is interrupted by nearly 11 unskippable ad-slots, each containing two ads of about 20–30 seconds. That means viewers are hit with ads every 8–10 minutes. Yup, that’s insane.
And this isn’t the first time. Before Lilo & Stitch, both Marvel’s Thunderbolts* and Captain America: Brave New World suffered the same fate.
When a platform’s ad-supported tier delivers such a broken, interruption-heavy experience, it ends up devaluing its own library. For a generation that has grown used to the seamlessness of Netflix and the ad-free promise tied to their subscriptions, this feels like a betrayal of trust.
The real question isn’t whether streaming services should have ads, it’s about balance. A well-designed ad-supported tier should be a cheaper alternative, not a frustrating, subpar experience. Stay tuned for more updates.
