In the realm of Sports Live streaming, JioCinema has been making huge success by streaming several huge tournaments for free in the past two years including the FIFA World Cup and Indian Premier League (IPL).
Talking about sports, Hotstar is the home of English Football as it streams Premier League alongside streaming major ICC events, Kabbadi and even Wimbledon.
With the newest Disney-Reliance merger, JioCinema and Hotstar are supposed to be merged with Hotstar likely to get IPL streaming rights along with Team India’s home tours and games. Whether it will be free or not is anyone’s guess for now.
Reliance bagged the digital rights for IPL in 2023 and was streaming it for free with several commentary languages. After acquiring the broadcast rights from Sony Sports Network in 2016, Hotstar had been the home of the internet audience for several years before losing the digital rights to Reliance. IPL internet viewers will once again be able to access Disney Hotstar.
While Hotstar looks like reigns heavily on the sports streaming section, SonyLiv on the other hand would also look to strengthen their streaming game. Sony currently streams the Roshn Saudi League, Bundesliga, European Football, WWE and overseas cricket tours.
As things stand, Hotstar looks ready to go and has an upper hand in terms of sports steaming a the official collaboration with JioCinema.
