JioHotstar! The streaming platform that just can’t stay out of the limelight. Well, mostly for the wrong reasons. Amid growing user frustration and repeated complaints, JioHotstar has once again managed to aggravate its user base—this time, credit goes to its faulty search functionality.
Many users have pointed out persistent issues with JioHotstar’s search feature. Complaints include being unable to access desired shows or movies even after typing the correct titles. One user noted that even after entering a title correctly, the show didn’t appear in the main search results; instead, it was buried under the platform’s “More Results” section.
When I searched for Scooby-Doo in JioHotstar,
This is what the result I got,
The actual search term had a match in "more results" but for some odd reason the API couldn't find Scooby-Doo… pic.twitter.com/FzYWcj7A4y— Deep Kumar (@DeepKumar_Hulk) July 13, 2025
One persistent issue that continues to annoy users is the lack of a proper ‘resume playback’ feature. Many have complained that they’re forced to search for the same title again and again, then manually scrub through the timeline to find the point where they left off. This doesn’t just ruin the experience, it makes you wonder: Is basic functionality too much to ask for?
Ek baat batao @JioHotstar
mujhe baar2 ek hi movie ko phir se kyu search me jakar dhund kar jahan chhodi thi waha le jakar dekhna padh rahi he
Ye kya bhikharipana he ab
Iske bhi paise loge kya bhikhariyo— AJ (@singh_AJ_58) July 22, 2025
Another concerning issue is JioHotstar’s inability to showcase full libraries from major American networks like HBO and FX. Type in the name of the network and you’ll only get 3–4 titles, not the full collection. It’s honestly baffling that such a basic feature is this broken, especially on a platform that claims to house premium content.
To make things worse, the Marvel and Star Wars sections have vanished from the homepage’s Studios section. Why? No one knows. Considering these are globally loved franchises with huge fanbases in India, this move makes absolutely no sense.

All these recurring issues paint a very concerning picture.
In a streaming space that’s more competitive than ever, where user experience is everything, JioHotstar seems to be fumbling the basics. Search doesn’t work. Resume playback doesn’t exist. Content discoverability is a joke.
And yet, the platform keeps boasting about revenue growth, subscriber milestones, and exclusive content.
Here’s the irony: users aren’t asking for groundbreaking tech or shiny new features. They’re just asking for the bare minimum—a working search bar and the ability to continue watching where they left off. But if even that is too much to ask, don’t be surprised if frustrated users start looking elsewhere. Stay tuned for more updates.
