Kannappa had its OTT premiere on Prime Video on September 4. Many believed the OTT release of this Vishnu Manchu starrer might neutralise the damage caused by its disastrous theatrical run, which earned just INR 46 crores against a massive INR 200-crore budget. But that’s clearly not the case right now!
So far, Manchu’s epic devotional drama has received mostly harsh criticism from viewers, with many calling it a complete waste of time. Despite its star-studded cast, Kannappa falters due to poor execution. The most common complaints are its sluggish pacing, weak screenplay, and underdeveloped characters. To make matters worse, the first half feels bloated and unengaging.
Adding to the disappointment, viewers have been quick to slam the movie’s low-quality, poorly executed VFX.
That said, a few have praised the climax and Prabhas’s special cameo as Rudra, calling them the only redeeming aspects of the film. But unfortunately, Prabhas shows up far too late to save the experience.
Meanwhile, Vishnu Manchu’s own performance is being shredded by viewers, with many labeling it “soulless” and “horrible.”
The criticism doesn’t stop there. Fans are also frustrated at how the film underutilises big names like Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, Kajal Aggarwal, R. Sarathkumar, and others.
Overall, Kannappa’s reception on Prime Video looks disappointing. Making matters worse, its position on the platform’s trending list doesn’t inspire much confidence. While Maalik (released August 22) still holds the #1 spot, Kannappa is stuck at #2.
And with Rajinikanth’s Coolie (September 11), Do You Wanna Partner (September 12), and Gen V Season 2 (September 17) lined up for release, each already riding strong online buzz, Kannappa risks being completely overshadowed. It’s safe to say the film will likely flop on OTT as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
Here are some of the Twitter (X) reactions to Kannappa!
After watching Kannappa, @gadusu_pilla has fallen into a coma. Manchu Vishnu is now praying to Lord Vishnu, because Lord Shiva blocked him after the film’s release. Lord Vishnu wants Manchu Vishnu to never make another movie, as that is the only way He can help.

Watched the #Kannappa movie on @PrimeVideoIN
It is an absolute bore fest and I watched the entire movie in FF mode.
The following scenes of duration 5 mins each were noteworthy:
1) Just before intermission, Mohanlal and Vishnu confrontation scene
2) Last 10 mins (climax)… pic.twitter.com/ypqPZtecWa— FilmyFella (@FilmyFella) September 5, 2025

#KannappaOnPrime waste movie of the year . Serial level making quality. I think serial is better than kannappa . movie that made even the gods look like . the film was shot entirely in New Zealand, I was able to see a few frames from there. #Mohanlal #Prabhas pic.twitter.com/SNHybCPh3k

Kannappa Movie Review – 2.5/5 ⭐
Kannappa had potential, but falls short in execution. The first half is painfully slow and feels like a drag.. easily a 1/5 experience. https://t.co/H2eKMrA3eo

As a common movie watcher I could find many flaws … Sequences aren't good, Never got a feeling like watching a mythological movie, utter flop show #kanappa— Shivaprabhu J (@JShivaprabhu) September 5, 2025
