Circa 2019. OTT platforms are famous and mainstream, but not nearly as much as they are currently. What do audiences turn to, to satisfy their middle-of-the-day binging needs? YouTube, ofcourse!
Considering the plethora of YouTube channels that have traversed the thin boundaries between one-video-long content and online series, the audience has a lot of options to choose from. However, if you take the YouTube series ‘Girls Hostel’, ‘Adulting’, and more for example, they portray a common trend.
Except for the fact that they have been acquired by OTT platforms like SonyLiv and Prime Video, respectively, their stories follow somewhat similar template plotlines. They all revolve around a bunch of young adult girls, trying to figure their lives out on their own through a series of comedically timed mishaps that eventually end up bringing the characters closer.
Such can be seen not only in these series, but also in the upcoming season of another YouTube series ‘Sisters: Season 2’. Sure, stories like these that follow lighthearted banter and culminate in feel-good moments make for good one-time-watches. However, do they really stand out from a multitude of others, very similar to them?
While the answer for this question might vary from user to user, the recently released trailer for the upcoming season has debuted to largely positive reviews. Hopefully, the new season will be defined by something that stays with viewers for long!
