Streaming platforms are supposed to give viewers choice. Yet, SonyLIV seems to be quietly stripping that away. Several users have noticed that the platform no longer allows manual selection of video quality modes, a basic feature that every major streamer offers.
Instead, it forces “Auto Mode,” which adapts the stream quality based on bandwidth. On paper, this sounds convenient. In reality, it’s anything but.
Auto mode on SonyLIV doesn’t always deliver optimal quality. In fact, many users report that picture clarity feels blurred or downgraded even on high-speed connections.
And without the option to manually select HD or Full HD, the viewer is left helpless, stuck with a feed that looks like a compromise.
It raises a simple but critical question: why remove choice? Platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and even JioCinema allow manual overrides. SonyLIV’s decision feels like a downgrade, stripping away control from the paying subscriber.
The frustration is compounded by the fact that SonyLIV is already one of the more expensive platforms in the Indian market, relying heavily on live sports and premium content.
If subscribers can’t even enjoy consistent picture quality, the value proposition collapses.
SonyLIV needs to answer: is it prioritizing server efficiency over user experience? Because right now, it seems less about convenience and more about control, and not in the viewer’s favor.
