Change is inevitable. It has to occur, just like the arrival of 2025. It only has a week or so and the changes are already in sight.
Amazon Prime Video is making changes in India starting January 2025, and they might affect how you use the service.
From next year, you’ll only be able to log in to a maximum of five devices, and only two of those can be TVs. Right now, you can connect up to ten devices without any TV restrictions. So, if your family likes streaming on multiple TVs, this new rule might feel limiting. To manage this, Amazon suggests either removing devices from your account or buying another membership.
There’s another big change. Ads.
Current subscribers will start seeing ads during shows and movies. Amazon promises fewer ads than regular TV or some streaming platforms, but it’s still a change from the ad-free experience we’ve all been enjoying. It is a major change and people are definitely NOT gonna like it.
If you want to skip ads, Amazon will launch an ad-free Prime tier in India soon, but the pricing hasn’t been revealed yet.
The current Prime membership costs ₹1,499 annually, with options for ₹599 quarterly or ₹299 monthly. There are also simpler plans like Prime Lite for ₹799 per year and Prime Shopping Edition for ₹399.
These updates seem to be Amazon’s way of encouraging more people to buy their own memberships and offering new options for those who prefer uninterrupted viewing.
If you’re a Prime Video fan, it’s time to think about how you use it. Are five devices enough?
Do ads bother you, or will you consider upgrading to the ad-free tier?
Either way, these changes will make streaming a little different next year.
