Prime Video may be an American company, but right now Asia looks like its real engine.
At its recent International Originals showcase in London, the platform made one thing clear. Asia Pacific is not just important. It is central to its global strategy. From Japanese anime to Korean dramas and Indian films, Prime Video is betting big on stories from this region and pushing them to global audiences.
But let us be honest. When we talk about scale and impact, Indian content is leading the charge. Prime Video itself recently shared on Instagram that Indian shows are among the most watched titles on the platform. That is not a small claim. It shows where the numbers are coming from and where audience loyalty is strongest.
Yes, Japanese anime travels well. Yes, Korean dramas have passionate fans. But in terms of volume and reach on Prime Video, Indian series and films are carrying serious weight. With a full Indian slate announcement expected next month, it is clear that the company plans to double down even more.
Still, with this kind of influence comes responsibility. It is disappointing that Rahi Anil Barve’s The Gulkanda Tales has not been released. A show mounted on such a grand scale and made with such care deserves a platform. If Prime Video truly believes in championing Indian storytelling, it should back projects like this fully and bring them to audiences worldwide.
