JioCinema may have a lot of glitches but the platform is indeed very dedicated and active when it comes to the streaming of sports. Think of the free streaming of not only IPL but also the Paris Olympics.
But, a lot of time, efforts don’t really result in acknowledgement. Disney+Hotstar is a far older and more established name in India when it comes to sports streaming. The platform literally rose to prominence because of sports and it dominated the Indian OTT space like none else. But, its downfall started in 2022 when it lost the IPL rights.
Despite everything that is not as great as it used to be, Disney+Hotstar has something to be happy about. The platform is now shortlisted for the SportsPro OTT Awards. It has been shortlisted in the category of “Best Marketing Strategy” for its slogan of “One Platform, One Nation”.
It streamed the Cricket World Cup 2023 for free and naturally a lot of people tuned in to watch the tournament.
If Disney+Hotstar manages to win then it will be the first time the platform will grab this award. Anyway, this doesn’t really matter as it is going to be merged with JioCinema anyways.
Perhaps the two can win together when such a time comes.
