India’s streaming boom has been built on two pillars, great content and seamless access. But what happens when the “access” part begins to falter?
That’s the growing concern among Jio AirFiber users, who are finding themselves unable to stream on major OTT platforms like Discovery+, SonyLIV, and others. The apps either don’t open, buffer endlessly, or crash midway. It’s not an isolated glitch, it’s become a pattern.
What’s more frustrating is the response mechanism. Every time users reach out to customer care, the same robotic reply: “Please wait for four hours, it’ll be fixed.” But days pass, and nothing changes.
This goes beyond user inconvenience. OTT platforms spend crores acquiring content, optimising experience, and building audiences. But when the ISP becomes the bottleneck, the platform’s reputation suffers too. A Discovery+ show might be top-notch, but if it won’t load on Jio AirFiber, viewers won’t blame the ISP, they’ll simply unsubscribe from the OTT service.
In effect, JioFiber’s shortcomings are starting to betray the very platforms they should support.
Ironically, JioFiber aggressively markets itself as the ultimate gateway to entertainment. But if basic streaming isn’t consistent, that promise rings hollow. Worse, if left unaddressed, this could sour relationships with OTT partners, who might start exploring more reliable alternatives for bundling and distribution.
For now, JioFiber needs to fix not just the apps, but the trust it’s eroding, one unresolved complaint at a time.
