Kannappa has now arrived on Prime Video in Hindi, and its timing could not be better. With Navratri going on, the devotional and mythological mood is strong across Hindi-speaking regions. The film stars Vishnu Manchu, but what makes it stand out for North Indian audiences is the presence of Akshay Kumar and Prabhas, both stepping into the role of Lord Shiva. These two stars already have massive followings in the Hindi belt, and their cameos alone could pull viewers to give the film a try.
That said, the film’s theatrical run did not meet expectations. Reviews were mixed, and it was panned for being overblown in its execution despite having a powerful mythological base. The Hindi audience, which often embraces larger-than-life storytelling, may still give Kannappa a second chance now that it is streaming at home. But this depends heavily on how the makers position the film.
Right now, promotion feels muted. A stronger push highlighting the presence of Akshay Kumar and Prabhas as Shiva, tied to the festive spirit of Navratri, could generate renewed curiosity. OTT has given films a fresh life before, especially when viewers discover them in the comfort of their homes. If the makers treat the Hindi release as more than just a formality and market it with energy, Kannappa could surprise everyone by finding a larger audience in its second outing.
