The debate between OTT platforms and traditional Television viewing experience can never be sorted as both have their pros and cons respectively. If you add Cinemas into the mix, it is a whole different scenario as statistics clearly show that currently, OTT has an upper edge over moviegoers in terms of sales and revenue.
While OTT has led to PVR INOX’s quarterly downfall, there is much more to the topic as to why people prefer OTT platforms over other sources of entertainment. Traditionally, audiences were stuck to their Televisions and Cinema Halls for watching any show or movie. While this medium had its benefits, things took a turn when OTT platforms like Hotstar and Netflix showed up.
While there was a slow transition from traditional viewing experience to OTT, things escalated quickly during the Pandemic, shifting a huge audience towards OTT. Now again the question arises, why? Why this shift? What OTT does do better in comparison to Cinemas and Televisions?
Well, the answer is simple yet unique as to why OTT is more preferrable these days. Platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar, etc provide a variety of options to choose from for the viewers. Not only do they provide a variety of options, but artists also get more freedom during an OTT show as there is no restriction or time limit. And if you think this is only my opinion, well Bigg Boss OTT Season 3 fame Munisha Khatwani also thinks the same.
In a recent interview, she stated how OTT gives more freedom to artists along with providing a variety of content to choose from for the viewers. She further stated how it is the biggest medium of entertainment currently and she got huge fame from it. Well, she is not wrong here as OTT platforms have brought a new wave of entertainment for the audience and they like it to the full extent.
Whether you agree with it or not, Munisha’s remarks about the OTT scenario in India are fully justified and the statistics, clearly show how much boomed the Indian OTT market truly is.
