Netflix is on a winning streak again, and the numbers are simply mind-blowing. The last couple of months have been all about Netflix shows ruling over every other streaming platform. It all started when Ginny & Georgia returned with their latest season.
The show’s mix of charming relationship drama, teenage struggles, and just the right dose of suspense struck a perfect chord with viewers. People couldn’t stop talking about it, and for weeks, it remained one of the most-watched shows everywhere.
But Netflix didn’t stop there. Just when Ginny & Georgia was still on people’s minds, the final season of Squid Game dropped on June 27th. The Korean survival thriller was already a global phenomenon when it first came out, but this time it came back with even more curiosity around it.
Even though critics had mixed feelings about the new season, that didn’t matter to viewers at all. Everyone wanted to see how Gi-hun’s painful and gripping journey would end.
As a result, Squid Game pulled in such massive viewing hours that it was easily the biggest thing on streaming by the end of the month. Every day, the show was gaining 1 billion streaming minutes which is just crazy.
Netflix was at 8.3% of the entire TV market, while the closest Disney+ (whole package) was at a mere 4.8%. Prime Video was even far behind at 3.6%.
Netflix didn’t just outperform its rivals but completely crushed them. So much so that Netflix alone was responsible for a whopping 42% of all streaming viewership gains last month.
Prime Video and Disney+ were nowhere near. And with this back-to-back run of hits, Netflix has reminded everyone why it’s still the king of streaming. Whether it’s a cosy teenage drama or a blood-soaked survival story, Netflix knows exactly what keeps people hooked to their screens.
