In today’s streaming world, almost every mid to highly prominent title gets at least a multi-week promotional blitz. Which is why Netflix’s near-silent announcement of the OTT premiere of Vash Level 2 is nothing short of baffling.
The sequel to the National Award-winning Gujarati horror-thriller, which earned positive buzz and enjoyed a strong box office run after its August theatrical release, is set to drop on the platform tomorrow, October 22, with barely a whisper.
The original 2023 film, Vash, was a landmark moment for the Gujarati film industry, hailed for its psychological intensity and fresh take on the horror genre. Its success was so significant that it was later officially remade into the blockbuster Hindi film Shaitaan, starring Ajay Devgn. Which is why the announcement of the OTT debut of Vash Level 2 deserved a much longer promotional push.
The sequel, helmed by Krishnadev Yagnik and starring Janki Bodiwala and Hitu Kanodia, arrived in theatres on August 27 and was met with mostly positive reception. Some critics argued it wasn’t as compelling or fresh as the first one, yet it was widely considered a worthy follow-up.
So why the soft launch?
Netflix is known for its ability to turn regional hits into global sensations. Vash Level 2 could have easily been positioned as a must-watch title for both regional cinema enthusiasts and general horror fans, especially given the success of its Hindi remake predecessor.
Without proper promotion, regional hits like Vash Level 2 risk getting lost in Netflix’s vast content catalogue. The sequel deserves better. It’s more than just a regional film, it’s a quality, genre-bending thriller connected to one of the biggest horror successes of the past year.
