It was the year 2022. Netflix saw a sharp decline in its subscribers for the first time. It also ensured that it remains the last time the subscriber count decreases on the platform. Since then, Netflix has only defied expectations and emerged highly successful in gaining new subscribers.
Netflix did really well in the third quarter of 2024, gaining 5.1 million new subscribers.
This was more than the 4 million new subscribers experts expected, although it was fewer than the 8.76 million new users they got in the same period last year.
However, Netflix is also expecting a big boost in subscribers when the much-anticipated second season of the Korean drama Squid Game comes out in December.
Interestingly, more than half of the new subscribers signed up for Netflix’s ad-supported plan. So it is becoming really really popular.
The company has been trying to focus more on things like profit margins and revenue growth, rather than just subscriber numbers. In fact, Netflix plans to stop reporting subscriber numbers next year and will focus more on the growth of its ad-supported plans. Nobody knows how they are connected.
Being impartial and not growing as a company have no relation at all. But, we can’t really do anything about it.
Looking ahead, Netflix is predicting even more subscriber growth in the last quarter of the year. This is because it has a strong lineup of content coming out, including the second season of Squid Game, a new Knives Out movie, the latest season of Stranger Things, and two National Football League games on Christmas Day, all of which are expected to attract more viewers.
Let’s see how it goes. It is anyways the secknd last time we have an honest report on the subscribers on Netflix.
