March is now over, and Netflix India must be getting ready for bigger releases in the month of April. But what was the performance of Netflix India in the month of March? Well, if you have read the title, then you know that it was mediocre. But let’s have a look at what the platform brought to us, before we analyse.
Original Series
Hello Bachhon
Original Film
Made in Korea
Licensed Films
With Love, Funky, Border 2, Mardaani 3
Analysis
The first series we saw was Hello Bachhon. It was essentially an expensive advertisement for Physics Wallah, and we all knew it from the beginning. When it comes to the series itself, it was very poorly made, with absolutely nothing to attract the audience. People felt cheated, and even the storytelling was far from compelling. Naturally, it did not gain much attention.
Let’s not forget that a similar story, Kota Factory, spread like wildfire among students, but this series was an utter disappointment. Even though it was based on a very famous personality, i.e. Alakh Pandey, and was led by Vineet Kumar, a very talented actor, it failed to make any impact at all.
The next original we have was Made in Korea. The Tamil movie was supposed to be a Bildungsroman of a character who goes all the way to South Korea and finds her true self. Instead of a character-driven film, the movie looked like a tourism advertisement of South Korea. It reminds us of how wonderfully written Kangana Ranaut’s Queen was, where we actually see a brilliant character arc of a middle-class Indian girl who finds herself in a foreign land. Naturally, the film did not attract a lot of audience.
Amongst licensed films, Mardaani 3 is doing excellent, and so is Border 2. With Love and Funky did not stand out. There was also a dearth of good licensed films this month.
Overall, it was a very mediocre month and all Netflix India deserves out of 10 is 4.
