Originals Power Netflix India’s 2025 Comeback

By Binged Bureau - Aug 20, 2025 @ 09:08 pm
Originals Power Netflix India’s 2025 Comeback

2025 is already shaping up to be a much better year for Netflix, as the streamer benefits immensely from a significant increase in its original Indian content compared to the previous year. Last year was undoubtedly disappointing for Netflix India, as only two of its shows managed to stand out: Heeramandi and IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. Compared to 2024, this year is already looking much brighter for the platform.

Netflix India started its 2025 slate with the well-made Black Warrant, followed by the gripping Dabba Cartel, powered by its stellar female lead cast. Khakee: The Bengal Chapter was another solid addition to the streamer’s 2025 lineup.

Then, Netflix India got seriously derailed with The Royals, not in terms of viewership, but in terms of quality. However, viewership-wise, this Ishaan Khatter starrer worked like a charm, prompting the platform to renew it for a second season soon after its premiere.

Mandala Murders was another big Netflix India release that received immense hype before its launch, only to emerge as a messy blend of fantasy and science. But thanks to its rich visuals and outstanding performances from the cast, it still found life on Netflix.

This Independence Day weekend, Netflix bounced back on track with the remarkable Saare Jahan Se Accha, led by the sensational protagonist-antagonist duo of Pratik Gandhi and Sunny Hinduja.

Now, we have a brand-new preview for Aryan Khan’s The Bads of Bollywood. As Khan’s directorial debut, this series has already generated immense buzz on social media. It’s set to explore the “mad world of the Hindi film industry,” a theme sure to draw in a massive audience curious about an insider’s view of Bollywood.

Moreover, we have Akka and Glory. The former is another grand YRF production, a gripping tale of sisterhood set in a fictional, matriarchal society. Starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte, the show is expected to be a powerful, violent, and chaotic drama, a genre rapidly gaining popularity on the platform.

Meanwhile, Glory, a sports drama led by Divyendu Sharma and Pulkit Samrat, will follow a family’s pursuit of an Olympic medal. This move into sports-centric content is a smart play, tapping into a national obsession while offering a different kind of high-stakes drama.

While there have been some reports of production halts for Raj & DK’s fantasy series Rakt Brahmand, citing budget woes, the overall lineup still looks incredibly strong. The focus on high production value and engaging, diverse storylines is a clear indicator of Netflix’s aggressive push to dominate the Indian market.

So far, despite some setbacks, Netflix India is looking strong and much better than last year’s performance. The Bads of Bollywood is sure to lure in massive viewership for the streamer. If it actually delivers, it would significantly strengthen the platform’s arsenal of Indian originals. Let’s see what happens. Stay tuned for more updates.
