OTT platforms are getting all the liberty of the world. There have been many instances where there were talks about them being censored but it never really materializes.
Very recently, a minister gave an update that they are reviewing the OTT content and the platforms may need to pre-screen the film before they go on OTT platforms.
But as of this moment, no formal censorship exists for content that takes the OTT route.
There is a new update on the same. You see, Shashank Shekhar Jha filed a PIL that demanded OTT platforms be censored. His concerns were usual, the ones about obscenity and its impact on society.
Well, the Supreme Court rejected the PIL citing how such PILs draw attention from the actual PILs that need to be addressed.
Long story short, no pressure from the court to start censoring OTT content.
But how will the OTT platforms now react to it?
This question needs to be answered as OTT platforms sometimes seem to take extra liberty which causes trouble for the entire entertainment industry.
This is a bad thing and must be checked. You see, Netflix India could have clarified the names of the terrorists themselves but they chose not to. These things caused unnecessary pressure on the industry as a whole.
And this is what needs to be checked by the overall OTT industry.
