While still roaring in theatres ‘Stree 2’ is making its way to digital and is now available to rent on Prime Video. You can now watch it on the streamer by paying ₹349. To remind you rental on Prime Video include 30 days to start watching after buying the video and 48 bourse to finish once started.
Anyone will say that charging ₹349 is just not fair. In fact it’s more than the ticket price for ‘Stree 2’ on day 1 of its release in theatres. Moreover, the rental conditions further discourage viewers to purchase the film at such a high price and watch it without the big screen experience. The number of people watching it simultaneously is not limited in this case, but for that everyone will be willing to wait for two more weeks when ‘Stree 2’ will stream rent free on Prime Video itself.
As we have mentioned many a times earlier too, charging such exorbitant rates for any Indian film is just now how it should be. Indian consumers are highly price sensitive and would rather watch it two weeks later. But what’s more concerning is that such a strategy increases chances of piracy, specially in cases of blockbusters like ‘Stree 2’. In the eagerness to see it as early as possible, many viewers do resort to unethical ways.
And that’s pretty discouraging for both the makers and the streamer who have a lot of money invested in the project. To make it right, Prime Video needs to unrgently restructure its pricing strategy for rentals and make it more attractive and affordable for the common people, who are the majority customers of streaming services in India.
