VOD market refers to the huge market that once used to be huge. People who want to watch a specific movie without buying a subscription to any OTT platform prefer this format. More importantly, a lot of movies are simply not available to watch on the regular streaming platforms thus people have to watch it by buying or renting it through the VOD platforms like BookMyShow Stream or Amazon Prime Video Store.
But, imagine for a moment. Usually, the price of such movies is something like ₹299 or even ₹399 in a lot of cases. Now, ask yourself.
Does that make sense?
Watching films on the big screens is cheaper than renting them at such crazy prices. Who in their sane mind would pay that money to watch it on TV/Laptop and that too for a period of 48 hours only?
The thing is, the VOD market is nothing but a dumpyard of movies that were rejected.
Take the recent case. There is a Hollywood movie called Kill ‘Em All 2. The movie also stars Jacqueline Fernandez who is very familiar to the Indian masses.
It was released directly on VOD and nobody was bothered about it. It is such a low budget and low buzz film that even renting is for ₹99 only. It will not even be released on the big screens.
But it tells us about the nature of the market which doesn’t really have anything exciting.
