Let’s give you a summary of whatever happened in the Jio Hotstar game. So, a man from Delhi bought the domain www.jiohotstar.com and requested Reliance to fund his education fee at Cambridge. Reliance refused and the man got intimidated due to a one-on-one fight against Reliance.
He sold the domain to two kids of Indian origin in the UAE. Now, the domain is being held by non-Indians living outside India. So, it is technically out of India’s legal limitations.
So what will Reliance do?
They clearly wanted this domain otherwise why would they threaten that Cambridge aspirant over a call?
But now that it is out of Reliance’s technical legal reach…what’s the way forward?
Firstly, they can buy it. We are pretty sure that the parents of the two kids will demand a very very high price but no price is a high price for Reliance.
Secondly, it is not in Reliance’s nature to give away money. They will definitely take legal action as they will never be short on legal resources in the UAE as well.
Since the parents of the kids decided to take the risk of buying the domain, they must be powerful enough in the UAE to consider fighting with Reliance.
The way forward can be a legal battle in both India and UAE. A different URL will simply not have the effect of jiohotstar but let’s see what happens.
