No matter how much people deny it over the internet, cringey ‘chick flicks’ and rom-coms that offer a respite from the monotonous everyday lives that most of us lead on the daily are a guilty pleasure.
Films and TV shows like ‘Two Broke Girls’, ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’, ‘Made in Heaven’, and now Ananya Pandey’s ‘Call Me Bae’ that are centered around the blindingly rich dealing with the (un)fortunate consequences of their own actions, undeniably secure spots on lists that read along the lines of “nothing to watch? watch this film / show not just for the plot, but also to find the hilarity of situations you’ll probably never end up in”.
With that being said, it was recently announced that ‘Call Me Bae’ will be returning for a second season. Although the first season premiered to largely positive reviews and was well received by viewers, considering the lackluster plotline, it doesn’t quite make sense to renew it for another season.
Sure, the last episode ended on a cliffhanger, but do we really need an entire new season to discover that the new season will be based entirely on Bae oscillating between her love interests? More than that, since a show like this doesn’t really leave a lot for the imagination, with its predictive storytelling.
Which is to say, while this renewal seems unnecessary, one can only hope that the upcoming season doesn’t entirely disappoint.
