Before the streaming platforms came to existence, “YouTube” was already there with its huge amount of content in various fields. .
YouTube was the first Platform which allowed us to have a humongous amount of content starting from education to make up, from gaming to how to code.
You name it YouTube have it. Only recently they have launched YouTube premium.
But the OTT platforms are fairly new in this case. If you keep keen eye then we’ll see that Netflix came into existence in 2007, but YouTube was launched in 2005.
Now, it’s fair to say YouTube has evolved a lot these days. They introduced us to vlogging, tutorials and what not. So with that much time YouTube created a sweet spot in the audience’s heart.
Then why is YouTube still winning?
YouTube also has this very unique capacity to recommend you videos according to your choice of videos, whatever you like to watch on YouTube, YouTube will immediately recommend you similar sort of video which never makes it mundane.
But in the case of Netflix or other streaming platforms you have to search for the thing you want to watch, so in the parameter of scale of superiority of algorithm YouTube is way ahead.
Additionally, while premium platforms which ask for a subscription before logging in, YouTube is absolutely free.
On the other hand the streaming platforms undoubtedly stream the best kind of entertainment, it’s not always what the audience wants.
It was found in a survey that if a person binge watches any streaming platforms for the longest time, after a while they get addicted to it but there is a slippery slope, and that is after the addiction they lose the dopamine boost they used to get from watching those platforms.
On the other hand people are never tired of YouTube , that is why in another survey it was shown that in India YouTube dominates 92% of it’s audience while the other platforms get only 8% chance.
The downside of these streaming platforms is none of them are free. We need to subscribe if we want to keep watching the things they have to offer.
And, specifically if we talk about India, the only platform where we get everything all at once is YouTube, even now the streaming platforms or the “OTT” platforms promote their trailers on YouTube.
To sum it up, since 2005 YouTube has been available for us, and although Netflix was launched in 2007 it wasn’t accessible for the Indian audience. So the proverb still goes till this date, “Old os gold”.
