The 2026 FIFA World Cup was supposed to be a landmark moment for ZEE5. After securing the streaming rights for football’s biggest tournament in India, the platform had a golden opportunity to win over millions of sports fans. Instead, it has managed to turn one of the most anticipated sporting events into a customer relations disaster.
As soon as the tournament began, social media was flooded with complaints from subscribers who claimed they could not access streams despite paying for the service. Others reported subscription activation issues, while many accused the platform of changing key features after purchase. What were those key features?
Something as important as the device limit. Earlier, people were under the impression that they would be getting multiple device access, but in reality, they could only get 1 device per account despite recharging for 799.
What makes this situation worse is that these are not minor inconveniences. Live sports are built on trust. Fans pay because they want a reliable viewing experience when the match starts. If a platform fails at that basic promise, nothing else matters. Exclusive rights, marketing campaigns, and promotional offers become meaningless.
The most troubling aspect of the controversy is not the technical glitches themselves. Every streaming platform faces occasional problems. The real issue is that paying customers were left questioning whether they received the service they were promised. That is a serious failure for any company, especially during an event as important as the FIFA World Cup.
ZEE5 did not just buy the rights to stream football. It bought the responsibility to deliver a seamless experience. By that standard, the platform has fallen well short of expectations.
A pirated stream is working but FUCKING zee5 HAS BOT EVEN STARTED?!?!?!! AND ON THE TOP PLAN?!?! @zee5 @punitgoenka
