Andrea Defronzo, “Andrew” to friends, 24 years old, is a screenwriter and director from Giovinazzo, a town in Puglia near Bari, in Southern Italy. He developed a passion for the audiovisual from an early age which led him to watch many films and learn more about cinema as a self-taught. After graduating from linguistic high school, he studied at IULM with Gianni Canova but during the Covid period he decided to return to Puglia where he attended the Amarcord directing academy with Angelo Longoni and Stefano Reali and later the Apulia Digital ITS Academy with Davide Barletti, Alessandro Valenti, Gianni De Blasi and other personalities of Apulian cinema in which he specialized in film production, graduating with a final evaluation of 100/100.
He took his first steps in Alessandro Valenti and Angelo Laudisa’s Scirocco Film where he worked as a production assistant on feature films in production and the docuseries “More than anyone else” available on Rai Play.
As part of the Bifest 2024 he was selected for the “The Territory of Ideas” laboratory curated by Silvia Napolitano on the very first phase of developing a story: the idea.
He is currently enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bari specializing in cinema, photography and audiovisual and based on a directing exercise supervised by Alessandro Piva, he writes and directs “Listen”, a short film on adolescent deafness with the aid of LIS (Italian Sign Language) which was presented at the 2nd edition of the Cinegozzo Festival and selected for the final evening of the Cortocircuiti Short Film Festival.
