George Ashkar is a Syrian filmmaker, a graduate of the Higher Institute of Cinema. His films explore postwar Damascus, amplifying the voices of youth who grew up in the shadow of conflict. His first film, A City Drowned with Details, screened at several international festivals. He is currently in post-production on Searching for What Has Remained and developing his next film, Son of Salvation. Ashkar is also the founder of Damascus Film Salon, a youth-led platform reviving free cultural salons through screenings, dialogue, and connecting cinema to justice, reconciliation, and Syria’s evolving reality. Its mission is to preserve cultural spaces as acts of resistance and support free artistic expression.
