Born
July 20, 2499 (age -473)Toulouse, Haute-Garonne, France

Sylvain Augier, born May 7, 1955 in Toulouse and died March 16, 2024 in Lecques, Gard, is a French television and radio host, journalist, and producer.

He grew up in the village of Forgues in Haute-Garonne, in a family steeped in Christian and humanist values, which marked his life through a special attention to others and a love of sharing. After obtaining his baccalaureate, Sylvain Augier continued his studies at the Toulouse Institute of Political Studies, graduating in 1976. He then moved to Paris to prepare for the ENA entrance exam, but abandoned this career despite being eligible. In 1978, he completed his national service as a volunteer in Nicaragua, an experience that fueled his curiosity about the world.

His media career began in 1979 at France Inter, where he worked as a journalist-reporter and hosted several programs until 1996, including “Oreillettes et Ventricules”, “Interbulles”, “Rendez-vous vous sont cernés” and “On ne vit que deux fois”. At the end of the 1980s, he also presented the program “Chic Planète” on the same channel. Sylvain Augier made his first steps in television in the 1980s. In 1986, he co-hosted “Sexy Folies” on Antenne 2, then took over “La Une est à vous” on TF1 from 1987 to 1988. He then joined FR3 (now France 3) where he presented “Sports Loisirs” in 1988 and co-hosted the Téléthon on several occasions. But it was with the shows “Faut Pas Rêver” (1990-1999) and “La Carte Aux Trésors” (1996-2005) that he achieved widespread public recognition. “Faut Pas Rêver,” created by Georges Pernoud, took him around the world, sharing his passion for discovery and encounters, while “La Carte aux trésors” became an iconic event in French heritage. On August 24, 1988, Sylvain Augier survived a serious paragliding accident in the Pyrenees, from which he suffered significant physical after-effects, a fact he discussed in his book “The Moment When Everything Tipped Over,” published in 2008. After the release of “The Treasure Map” in 2005, he experienced periods of personal turmoil, which he evoked in his book “I Come Back from a Long Way,” published in 2023, in which he recounts his struggle with illness and the support of his loved ones.

Alongside his audiovisual career, Sylvain Augier wrote several books, including “Babystoires: Splinters of Childhood, Splinters of Laughter” (1995), “Travel Diaries” (1999), “Doubt and Faith: Sylvain Augier Meets Sister Emmanuelle” (2009), and “Faut rêver” (2015). He also continued to host radio shows, including “Sylvain Augier en toute liberté” on Sud Radio in 2001, then “Les Trésors de la musique” on Radio Classique from 2011 to 2012, before returning to Sud Radio to present “Qu’est-ce qui vous fait courir?” from 2014 to 2017.

After retiring from the media in 2017, Sylvain Augier resided in Lecques, near Sommières in the Gard department. It was at his home that he died suddenly following a heart attack on March 16, 2024, at the age of 68. His funeral took place on March 28, 2024, in Sommières, leaving behind a profound impact on French public broadcasting, commemorated by the President of the Republic and millions of viewers who shared the beauty of the world with him.
