Bloody Mary Movie Review – Half-Baked Thriller
BOTTOM LINE: Half-Baked Thriller

Few Cuss Words
Thriller

What Is the Story About?

Mary (Nivetha Pethuraj), Raju (Rajkumar Kasireddy) and Basha (Kireeti Damaraju) are orphans who grew up together. They are physically disabled and stay together in an apartment. Their lives are turned upside down when one day, Mary accidentally kills someone; Basha is witness to a murder, and Raju ends up getting the latter’s original footage.

cop involved in the crime is after Mary, Raju and Basha. The movie’s basic plot is how the trio escape and what happens in the end.

Performances?

Nivetha Pethuraj playing Mary is good. She’s a mix of vulnerability and confidence. It’s easy to connect with her actions. There’s no heavy-duty drama, and a lot depends on spontaneous reactions. She has done them well.

Kireeti Damaraju and Rajkumar Kasireddy get decent roles. The trio are critical to the proceedings and hence the importance. However, their roles are not fleshed out that well, which shows in their actions. In the few scenes they get the chance; they do adequately.

Analysis

Chandoo Mondeti directs Bloody Mary. It is a thriller with physically disabled people as the lead. The situation they are put in generates intrigue.

The first act of the movie is neatly done. The world is quickly established with the various character intros, and we move into the story crisply. The interest comes basically due to the characters and the impossible situation they land in.

The core conflict with the police and life-threatening circumstances makes one look forward to the rest of the proceedings. However, the entire narrative gives a rushed vibe after the initial setting. The focus is mainly on a single character and her actions. The way she quickly finds a way out looks far fetched.

All the characters besides Mary go for a toss in the process of highlighting her. The twist related to the goon is also very predictable. And the clash between him and the police doesn’t lend to a thrilling narrative.

Still, there are some fun moments in between that hold the attention. Bloody Mary would be a flat and dull watch after a point if it weren’t for them.

The ending veering into a crime comedy terrain could have been handled better. The extended climax is alright.

Overall, Bloody Mary has an intriguing premise that begins well. But rushed making and half baked drama never lets it become the gripping tale it could have been.

Other Artists?

Ajay and Brahmaji are the two other prominent actors in the movie. They have typical one-dimensional antagonist parts that get a threatening beginning but later turn into a joke. It is a trope that the actors have done many times before. They do the required here as well, with ease. RJ Hemanth is seen briefly and is irritating. The rest of the actors hardly register.

Music and Other Departments?

The background score by Kaala Bhairava is satisfactory. He does a good job of pumping up the narrative with the score. Karthik Ghattamaneni’s cinematography could have been better, considering the setting. There is a visible attempt to be stylish, but even that is seen in small parts. Viplav Nyshadam’s editing is decent. The writing is okay in parts. A better work would have definitely elevated the content.
