What Is the Story About?
SonyLIV and The Viral Fever’s College Romance Season 4 picks up from where the previous season left off. Bagga (Gagan Arora) and Naira (Apoorva Arora) are not on talking terms after their temporary long-distance love falls apart. Dhatrpriya, aka D.P, (Nupur Nagpal) and Karan (Keshav Sadhna) are in a blow-hot-blow-cold relationship. Harry (Eklavey Kashyap) and Raavie (Janhvi Rawat) vie for the affections of Deepika (Shreya Mehta). The 5-episode series centres on the love lives, friendship fiascos, college capers and everything in between, of these lively college youngsters.
College Romance Season 4 is written and directed by Ashutosh Chaturvedi and Pankaj Mavchi, and produced by The Viral Fever.
Performances?
Gagan Arora is the centerpiece of College Romance. As Bagga, he is simply terrific. Keshav Sadhna as Karan is superb too. Apoorva Arora is passable as Naira. Nupur Nagpal, Eklavey Kashyap and Janhvi Rawat essay their roles well. Shreya Mehta, who stole the show in previous seasons, is a bit too loud and over-the-top this time.
Analysis
College Romance Season 4 is a befitting end to a show that has kept its fans entertained for such a long time. The sundry issues of the beloved gang — sometimes petty, sometimes pertinent, but always humourous — are oh-so-relatable for every young adult, and also for the young at heart. For this reason alone, College Romance Season 4 is again as eminently watchable as it has always been.
The tone of the storytelling is always light and breezy, just like most The Viral Fever shows. The makers rein in the emotions as soon as the tone starts to get heavy or melodramatic. This season of the show being the final one, is centred on the gang’s impending farewell, and the dreams they have for the future. Again, the emotional subject is handled with light-hearted humour, rather than heavy-handed melodrama.
The first two episodes are fun to watch. The third one gets quite boring and repetitive, but the series makes a smart turnabout with the fourth episode. It is easily the best episode out of the five, as it imparts valuable life lessons to its viewers. The fifth episode packs in emotional tearjerker bits, without letting go of the breezy tenor of the storytelling.
The finale season of the series certainly invokes strong nostalgia and indelible memories of college days in viewers that have lived out that stage of their lives. Overall, College Romance 4 is a lively, lighthearted, playful watch — the kind that entertains while you watch it, but then forget about it soon after. Also, the series, heartwarming and coming-of-age though it is, will appeal only to a certain section of viewers – the young adult, particularly.
