What Is the Story About?

Kapoor (Ashutosh Rana) and Bajaj (Manoj Joshi) are long-time friends. They decide to take the relationship a step further by getting their kids married. Days before the engagement is supposed to occur, Vani enters the Kapoor household claiming to be the wife of Aakash, son of Kapoor. She also has a daughter Gehna.

Who is Vani? What is the truth behind her sudden appearance? Is she really the wife of Aakash, as she claims? And, the all-important, what about the initially planned marriage? The answers to all these questions form the story of Hungama 2.

Performances?

Shilpa Shetty - Hungama-2 - ReviewMeezan Jaffery plays the main lead in the movie. He has a significant part in driving the narrative forward. There is a lot of comic scenes given to him. Unfortunately, the actor falters. There is a visible effort, no doubt, but it lacks the star quality and charisma needed to elevate the content. Meezan is absolutely bland in that aspect. Man scenes fall flat due to the lack of timing and presence.

Analysis

After a long gap, Priyadarshan returns to Bollywood. He has picked yet another film of his from Malayalam to form the core plot. It is then rewritten for the current times.

The story of the film relies on time tested confusion, drama and comedy. Priyadarshan has made many movies in this space and successfully in the past. Unfortunately, Hungama 2, a supposedly spiritual successor to blazing Hungama, doesn’t work.

More than the story, it is the jaded execution that is the problem. Even all the senior artists seem to be going through the motions. They don’t land the punches the way it’s meant. It is here that Hungama 2 loses out.

Since the wafer-thin plot relies on the writing and the writing – on the actors, they must deliver. When that doesn’t happen, the narrative is bound to fail.

Barring occasional laughs here and there, Hungama 2 never takes off. Two hours pass, and we don’t have a big entertaining segment. Many are planned, though, but they don’t work.

Finally, towards the end, in the last half an hour, the Rajpal Yadav block shows a glimpse of the past glory days. The sparks are visible, and the entire sequence gives us a breather from the mundane and drab proceedings that preceded it. luckily, it is followed by another one from Paresh Rawal who has been building for that moment from the start.

Pranitha Subash - Hungama-2 - Review -Disney plus hotstar

Apart from these two blocks featuring Rajpal Yadav and Paresh Rawal, there is nothing in the movie. The trademark chaotic climax of Priyadarshan, too, is a letdown barring a tiny bit.

Overall, Hungama 2 fails to deliver what it promises, a rollicking fun-entertain. And this, despite the presence of a solid supporting cast, is a much bigger disappointment.

Other Artists?

Pranitha Subhash is okay playing the main female lead. She matches the bland lead and together looks like a perfect boring pair. She looks good and is fine in songs, though. Shilpa Shetty is stunning looking and delivers what is expected from her.

The real strength of Hungama 2 is the supporting cast. Ashutosh Rana leads the charge with a tough grandfather act. He is sincere and does his best for the part. He goes overboard many times, but that is expected from the terrain he is operating.

Paresh Rawal looks jaded and uninterested initially. The failure of his character and presence in the initial sequences is one of the significant letdowns. However, he gets better and ends satisfyingly. The real highlight is Rajpal Yadav. He has a forgetful intro, but his comeback during the pre-climax portions is the movie’s highlight. He steals the show again during a brief bit towards the end. These sequences remind us of the vintage comedy days of the actor under the direction of Priyadarshan. Tiku Talsania puts in the effort, but he looks like a pale imitation of his glorious past. Manoj Joshi could have been utilised well.

Music and Other Departments?

Paresh Rawal - Hungama-2 - ReviewThe music by Anu Malik is below par, including the remix of his classic chartbuster song. The background score is par for the course by Ronnie Raphael. The cinematography of NK Ekambaram is weak for a big comedy production. It fails in giving a grand appeal. The film definitely would have been helped with further trimming. The writing is alright, overall.
