What Is the Story About?

Vasu (Nagabhushana) and Janvi (Bhoomi Shetty) are a married couple struggling to find love in their lives. They are on the verge of getting divorced when the country goes into a state of lockdown. It is the first wave of the corona.

How the lives of the couple, Vasu and Janvi, change due to the lockdown. Did they continue with their divorce plans? What happens when an uninvited guest enters their apartment is the basic story of the film.

Performances?

Bhoomi Shetty-IKKAT Kannada Movie Review

Nagabhushana and Bhoomi Shetty are the main leads of the movie. The entire film rests on their shoulders. They do their best to hold the attention, but sadly they are found short on content.

Nagabhushana and Bhoomi Shetty are in the zone. They are expressive and lively throughout with good timing. It is a one-dimensional urban couple (with middle-class roots) act. They do it well given the available material. But, the whole thing is placed in a forgettable affair, unfortunately.

Analysis

Eshaam Khan and Haseen Khan jointly direct the movie. It belongs to the set of films made specifically during the lockdown from a single location.

When you have a film with two hours duration, and the whole thing is set in a single location, the screenplay and performances become critical to hold the attention. The story takes a backseat as not much can be done.

Ikkat is set in an apartment and features a nagging couple. It hits the wrong note at the start itself. We begin the journey on an irritating note. There is little to no fun. The actors try their best, but the content is pretty ordinary. It is the same old squabble.

The writing lets us down from the start. The screenplay follows it. It is boring as nothing happens much after a point. The initial half has a few twists in store. They are not particularly excellent, but it nonetheless keeps things moving.

Sundar-IKKAT Kannada Movie Review

However, once all the cards are out in the open, nothing is left to sustain the interest. It, unfortunately, happens so quickly.

The narrative also takes the help of an uninvited guest in the house comedy trope. Even on this score, nothing exciting is shown. The overacting on top of it makes it worse, additionally.

The way the movie started, one can see the end at the beginning itself. The narrative feels like one massive stretch to reach the predictable climax.

Overall, Ikkat is a routine story with a dull screenplay and over the top characterisations. Barring a few funny moments, it overstays its welcome big time.

Other Artists?

Anand Ninasam, Sunder and RJ Vikki are three other artists seen beside the lead. They are apt for the characters given to them. Among the three, RJ Vikki easily has the most exciting and funny part. However, the fun ends immediately after a decent intro. Similarly, Sunder has his moments, but they are ruined by his loud action that further lacks content writing-wise.

Music and Other Departments?

Nagabhushana

Dossmode provides the music, which is alright within the flow of the movie. It has a quirky feel to it which is maintained by the background score as well. The cinematography by Lavith is okay. He has a limitation of getting restricted within an apartment. But, that shouldn’t be an excuse for short film level visuals. The editing could have been sharper. The writing is below par and feels non-existent at times.
